This cassette release features a 1970s recording of the Bendaly Family performing in Aleppo. The Bandaly family is a celebrated musical group known for their captivating performances that left a lasting impact on Arab audiences during the 1970s and 1980s. Originating from Tripoli, northern Lebanon, the group comprises twelve talented members—nine sisters and three brothers: René, Roger, Fadi, Dora, Micheline, Nadia, Yola, Randa, Norma, Hania, Sonia, and Fadia. Their distinctive style features harmonious collective singing, which quickly garnered attention across the Arab world. The group's journey to fame began when the siblings, inspired by their musically gifted parents, decided to hold a special concert for their mother on Mother's Day. They captivated audiences with their unique blend of lyrics, melodies, and instrumentation, first showcasing their talent on television in 1973. As they toured countries like Jordan, Kuwait, and Syria, they became renowned for their dedication to modern music while maintaining the authenticity of Eastern sounds, emphasizing that their mission was to share their art rather than pursue financial gain. Renee Bandaly, one of the prominent figures in the group, was known for his satirical songs that reflected the realities of the civil war and the living crises in Lebanon between 1975 and 1990. He collaborated with the late poet and journalist George Yamin to create memorable songs, including the iconic Tanke Tanke, which depicted the struggles of daily life during that tumultuous period. Additionally, he played a significant role in introducing his daughter, the child artist Rimi Bandli, to international stages in the 1980s. The family enjoyed immense success, performing beloved songs from that era such as Aylatina Aila, Wardeh Hamra, and Ghazali. Renee founded the production company 3R Productions, which produced Rimi's works, and established a "song bank" with poet Bashir Al-Daiga. In the last five years of his life, he dedicated himself to providing educational theater for schools. Renee passed away on December 28, 2019, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to inspire future generations.
