More Info
Samira Tawfiq (b. 1935) is a Lebanese singer born in Suweida, Syria, to an Armenian family. Her singing talent emerged at the age of seven, and by thirteen she was performing in Beirut’s family theatres. In the early 1960s, she left Beirut and was embraced by Jordan’s national radio, where she performed Ben Al Dawali live, a key moment in her rise to fame. Renowned for singing in the Bedouin dialect, Tawfiq worked with leading poets and composers from Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan, including Muhammad Mohsen, Elias Rahbani, Melhem Barakat, Philemon Wehbe, and Tawfiq Al Nimri. Among her most famous songs are Hisnak Ya Zain and Asmar Khafif Al Rouh, which marked the beginning of her widespread success across the Arab world. Alongside her singing career, Tawfiq appeared in several films and TV series, performed concerts worldwide, received numerous awards (including bronze and gold keys from various countries), and remains a member of the Syndicate of Professional Artists in Lebanon.
