More Info
A recording of a private concert by the Syrian artist Jan Shababi (1943–2006), performing a number of songs on the oud. Known as one of Aleppo's most significant singers, Shababi was celebrated for his renditions of Syrian heritage songs and muwashahat. Despite his musical talent and formal training, he pursued a career as a prominent merchant, reserving his performances for intimate settings like homes and churches. Shababi also composed poems, the best-known being Asrufu 'Anni Tabibi and Qal Al Woshat. In his concerts, Jan Shababi was accompanied by some of the finest musicians of his time. During his travels to Venezuela, he carried Aleppo in his heart and expressed its essence through his voice. However, he soon returned to his homeland, leaving an enduring legacy in the hearts of those who experienced his art.
