More Info

A cassette featuring songs from the album Baddi Atsawwar by Lebanese singer Rabih Al Khawli (born Tony Al Khawli, 1961), one of the most celebrated Lebanese vocalists of the 1980s and 1990s. Khawli began his career at the age of nineteen, appearing on the Lebanese talent show Studio El Fan competing in the category dedicated to the legendary singer Wadih Al Safi. Impressed by his voice, director Simon Esber gave him the stage name Rabih Al Khawli, which he carried throughout his musical career. Among his most famous songs are Ya Ahl Al Hawa, Baddi Atsawwar, and Ya Reit Bitrda, which he composed in his modest home. He also performed a number of popular songs that endeared him to the public, as well as renditions of Umm Kulthum’s classics such as Enta Omri and Ana Bintizarak. The musician Melhem Barakat notably composed a number of songs for him, including Nawena Al Jazeh, En Kan Allah Bireed, Ah Law Fiyee. Khawli later withdrew from the music scene and entered a monastery in Lebanon, retiring from art after the death of his brother in a car accident. He became a monk in the year 2000.
