More Info
Nouri Iskandar was a Syrian Syriac composer and musician known for his Syriac church music compositions. He was born in Deir ez-Zor in 1938 to a family from Urfa (historically Edessa, now in Turkey), and passed away in 2023 in Sweden. He began his musical journey with the Syriac Orthodox Scout Band in Aleppo as a trumpet player. He studied violin for one year before founding the Syriac Choir in Aleppo in 1965, then establishing the Shamiram Ensemble in Beirut in 1970. In 1974, he performed at the UNESCO concert in Beirut alongside Lebanese artist Wadih El Safi. This cassette presents some of Nouri Iskandar's most famous compositions.
