More Info
Cassette recording of a private concert in the town of Taldara in the Salamiyah region featuring Syrian singer Mohammad Sadek Hadid accompanied by the oud. The voice of the son of Barri Al Sharqi village (b. 1938) emerged in the countryside of Salamiyah city. He learned singing and playing from his father Sadek Hadid in the early sixties. He transcended the boundaries of his region to achieve wide popularity in several areas of Syria. He recorded for Damascus Radio a segment of ataba and mawliya in the Voice of the Farmers program in 1968, and the cassette market knew more than a thousand hours of singing in his voice, relying on the Salamiyah regional dialect, in addition to the Bedouin dialect that was understood in his region located on the edge of the desert. Because of his unique style, those interested in shaabi singing began calling his music Salamonic Ataba. Abu Sadiq, nicknamed King of Ataba and Poet of the Rababa, passed away in 2007.
