A recording of a critical social series entitled Jawlat Al Microphone by Hikmat Mohsen. Hikmat Muhsin (1910-1968) was one of the pioneers of drama in Syria, a multi-talented artist; an actor, folk storyteller, director, playwright and zujjal performer. He was born in Istanbul to Damascene parents Mustafa bin Subhi Muhsin and Khairia Ashour. He is considered the founder of Syrian popular drama in radio, theatre and television. He is known and famous for his character (Abu Rushdi), and he also created famous characters that have remained in Syrian society for decades, such as (Abu Rushdi, Abu Fahmi, Abu Sayyah, Um Kamel, and others). He contributed to the establishment of the Popular Theatre in 1959, before it merged with the National Theatre ten years later. He became famous after recording thirty episodes of a radio series called Sunduk Al Hakaya with the artist Tayseer Al Saadi for BBC Radio in Cyprus, after which he presented many plays in Damascus and on the radio, including Ya Mast'ajel Waqqef Laalk, Al Kersi Al Makhlou', Saber Afandi, Beit Ll Ajar. He also presented many critical social dramas for Damascus Radio, which exceeded 800 radio episodes, including Al Khattabe, Taaieh Al Akhfaa, Mat'ab Afandi, Taht Al Shbbak, in addition to drama series, heritage and entertainment programmes and others. He died in 1968 at his home in Damascus.
