Dhiab Mashhour, was born in Deir ez-Zor in 1946. Growing up in a religious family, his father initially discouraged him from pursuing a career in music. Despite these restrictions, Al-Furati developed a passion for singing and started among his friends, particularly the traditional Arabic style known as ataaba. Mashhour, began his musical journey in 1958 at the young age of twelve, deeply influenced by the Iraqi singer Khadr Abu Aziz. After the establishment of a music club in his hometown, Al-Furati seized the opportunity to perform and became known for his renditions of traditional folk songs and ballads. In 1969, Al-Furati moved to Damascus to pursue his musical career. He worked as a singer in nightclubs, and then participated in popular television series such as Sah el-Nom and Milh w Sukkar. Al-Furati gained widespread recognition for his performances of traditional Euphrates folk songs, which he adapted and blended with Iraqi musical elements, creating a unique sound that resonated with audiences across the Arab world. One of his most famous songs, Ya Bu Redayyen reflects the culture and society of the Euphrates region. The lyrics, which reference a type of wide sleeve, express the singer's deep connection to his roots. Al-Furati also popularized the song Aal Maya 'Aal Maya a classic Euphrates folk song that describes a beautiful woman. By combining elements of Euphrates and Iraqi folk music, Al-Furati created a distinctive musical style that celebrated the rich cultural heritage of his region. His innovative approach to traditional music earned him a special place in the hearts of Arab music lovers.
