More Info
This cassette contains a collection of the most famous songs by artist Naim Hamdi, a Syrian singer and composer born in 1949. His real name is Naim Quweider, but he was given the stage name "Hamdi" by Egyptian musician Baligh Hamdi when he was in Egypt in 1969, according to his account. Hamdi studied music, learned to play the piano, and enrolled in the Italian Music Institute in Cairo after receiving musical training from Adnan Abu Al-Shamat. In 1978, he joined the Institute of Arabic Music and performed songs in English and French. He also composed the anthem for the Mediterranean Games held in Latakia, Syria, in 1987. The anthem, titled Ahla Wa Sahla Ya Marhaba, is featured on this cassette. Hamdi was one of the first to present Syrian songs in the form of music videos, including Yama Ruhna wa Meshina and Tayer Albi wa Ma Behaddi, both of which are also included in this collection.
