More Info

This cassette features a collection of classic Syrian national songs performed by various popular artists from the latter part of the 20th century. Some songs are sung in Classical Arabic, while others are in the Syrian dialect. The songs vary in content and meaning; some express love for the homeland and extol its beauty, others celebrate the heroism and victories of the nation's army in war, and still others address the nation's leaders, expressing hope and confidence in them. Among the songs featured on this cassette is Saff Al 'Aaskar by composer and singer Elie Choueri, known for his national and patriotic music. He presented dozens of national songs warmly received by Lebanese and Arab audiences. Also included is Ya Mhandes 'Aammerly Dar, performed by the late artist Samir Yazbek, a song commemorating the glorious corrective movement in Syria in the 1980s.
