More Info
A cassette featuring various songs by the Syrian singer Karwan (1932-2001). Born in Latakia, Karwan moved with her family to Damascus in the mid-1940s, where she enrolled in the Najah Institute and began singing and performing Asmahan songs. In 1945, she joined the Radio Children's Club, then the Damascus Radio Choir, and then the Radio Music Institute, where she learned solfege and the oud. The Damascene musician Mustafa Hilal gave her the artistic name Karawan, and the song Shddu Al Hawdag Walla, written by Rifaat al-Aqil and composed by Adnan Quraish, is considered the beginning of her artistic career, and her total number of songs on Syrian radio exceeded four hundred.
