This cassette features a recording of improvisations on the Mejwiz by the Syrian musician Nayef Mahfouz. Known as the first poet of Taldara, a small town near Salamiyah in central Syria, Mahfouz was famed for his ability to play the Mejwiz for hours on end without stopping. Even after his death, no other musician has come close to his level of mastery.
