This cassette features a private recording of the Syrian popular singer Muhammad Khader Maghrabiya, accompanied by the Rababa instrument. Muhammad Khader Maghrabiya (1934-2012) originated from the town of Bari al-Sharqi, the fountainhead of the Salmouni Ataba and the birthplace of the famous Hadid family. Maghrabiya's family is distinguished by the popular Salmouni style of singing and is considered one of the most prominent families in the region and in Syria in this style. Maghrabiya learned to read the Qur'an from a sheikh and developed a love for singing from childhood. He built his first rababa and played it at the age of twelve. Throughout his life, he sang many kinds of folk songs and organized numerous musical evenings and parties, continuing this tradition until 2018. He passed away at the age of ninety. His children continue to perform the same style of singing and playing on the rababa.
