More Info

A recording titled The Nights, in which Rifaat Al-Hamawi performs the art of Nayel and Attaba with the accompaniment of the Rababa. The cassette recording was made in the town of Salamiyah, Syria, located 33 kilometres southeast of Hama. Nayel belongs to the singing arts of Syria's eastern Euphrates region (Al-Furat). I It is often used to express sad emotions and disasters, even when it is sung accompanied by percussion and a relatively fast melody. The structure of the Nayel seems to be derived from the Mawal, as it takes the structure of the first two halves of the basic quadrilateral structure of the Mawal, but differs from it with its slow, melancholy melody.
