More Info

This rare 90-minute cassette from our archive captures a live recording of a private concert by Fouad Ghazi (1955–2011), a beloved Syrian singer originally from the village of Faqrou in Hama Governorate. Early in his career, he performed under the name Fouad Faqrou, before reclaiming his real name after gaining formal recognition from Syria’s General Organization for Radio and Television. Ghazi was known for his rich, resonant mountain voice and became a key figure in Syria’s musical landscape during the 1980s. His repertoire spanned emotional ballads, shaabi songs, and patriotic anthems. He began performing at private events before rising to fame with the help of composer Abdul Fattah Sukkar, who penned his breakthrough hit “Lazra’lak Bustan w Ruud (I’ll Plant You a Garden of Roses)”. Ghazi went on to work with many of Syria’s leading composers, including Said Qutub and Suhail Arafa, and appeared in several films, such as “Haret Al Anater (The Heroes’ Neighborhood)”. Over the years, he was given several titles, among them “King of the Ataba” and “Nightingale of the Mountain.”
