More Info

A Recording for a number of songs by the Syrian artist Mayada El Hennawi (born 1959). Born in Aleppo, El Hennawi earned the title 'Songstress of the Generation,' standing at the forefront of contemporary Arab singers. She spent most of her life in Egypt, where she worked with many famous Egyptian composers like Mohamed El-Mugy and Mohammed Abdel Wahab, but her big artistic breakthrough came when she collaborated with the musician Baligh Hamdy. In the early 1990s, she started working with the new generations of poets and composers, including musicians like Sami Al-Hafnawi and the great Khaled Al-Amir. Mayada released two patriotic songs, the first called Ya Sham as a tribute to Syria, and the second dedicated to Lebanon titled Beirut,Ya Arous Al Sharq. She's also notable for being the first Arab singer to release her work on laser discs.
