Iraqi Song Ambassador Sadoun Jaber was born in southern Iraq in 1950, and began singing under the influence of great singer Abdel Halim Hafez. He began his career on Iraqi radio in 1963, excelling in numerous singing styles, inspired by prominent Iraqi singer and composer Hudairi Abu Aziz. Jaber mastered the Oud, and often sang it while playing. His breakthrough in music started with the 'Amateur Corner' program, where his love for singing helped him learn many styles. He had a great ambition to achieve fame outside Iraq, which was not difficult for him. He toured many Arab countries, gaining a broad Arab fan bas across the levant – especially in Syria, where cities like Homs, Damascus, Raqqa, and Salamiyah hosted his concerts. In one instance, Salamiyah's streets were blocked by fans after tickets sold out three months in advance. On this cassette, we listen to a culled selection of Iraqi pop songs from Saadoun Jaber’s discography, enriched by choral accompaniment and intricate arrangements that give the complex melodies their due.
