More Info
Aleppo is one of the Arab cities most fortunate in having songs dedicated to it, which celebrate the city's history, its citadel, its people, and its cultural status. On this studio album, we listen to a collection of these songs performed by Aleppo's own singer and composer Nihad Najjar, who personally composed the majority of the songs. Notable among them is the song Gomo Nergos Arabia (Let's Dance Arabic), which is frequently performed and danced to at various social occasions in Aleppo. Nihad Najjar was born in Aleppo in 1964 and was immersed in Aleppo's musical heritage during his upbringing. He learned singing, playing multiple instruments, composition, and arrangement, achieving widespread success in Syria and abroad in all of these fields, with his compositions being performed by artists such as Shahd Barmada, Abeer Fadda, Wadi'e Al Safi, and Hisham Abbas, among many others. Najjar is also distinguished by his encyclopedic knowledge of eastern maqams and rhythms, and is considered one of the most prominent contemporary traditional musicians from Aleppo today.
