More Info
Unlike the minimal and simple arrangement of most archival tapes, here we listen to Iraqi singer Ra'ad Al Nasiri accompanied by a complete acoustic arrangement that could be a full oriental takht ensemble. This arrangement lends his mawals a style reminiscent of 1970s and 1980s Iraqi pop rather than to shaabi music. Ra'ad Rahim Radi Al-Tai was born in Iraq's Dhi Qar province in 1964. During the Iran-Iraq war, his family moved to the city of Nasiriyah, from which he took his nickname "Al Nasiri." He began singing from a young age and became a professional singer by the 1980s, performing at concerts and events in Baghdad where he recorded his first songs. Al Nasiri gained significant fame during the 2000s, and continues to release recordings and perform prolifically to this day.
