More Info
In this live cassette from a private concert in 1999, we listen to singer, composer, and oud player Adel Khadour performing a collection of traditional songs and attaba pieces, including the song Sabah Al-Khair (Good Morning) and the poem Ayaratni Bil Shaib (She Shamed Me by My White Hair), which is memorized by most enthusiasts of Syrian shaabi and folk music. The low-quality recording is adorned with Adel's expert oud playing in a way that shadows his singing. Adel Khadour (Abu Ali) was born in Latakia, Syria in 1961. He began his career singing at public celebrations in rural Latakia when he was in his twenties, before starting to record and release cassettes featuring both traditional songs and mawals as well as original songs, some of which he composed himself as he is an excellent oud player. Today he has an enormous audio archive, especially of the attaba performances throughout his career, as he is still considered one of the most prominent attaba singers along the Syrian coast.
