More Info

From the 1960s through the early 2000s, Lebanon played a leading role in shaping children’s music and culture – until Syria took the mantle with the launch of the kids’ TV channel Spacetoon. This cassette features celebrated Lebanese vocalist Magida El Roumi (b. 1956) alongside a children’s choir, performing a collection of songs that became formative for one or even two generations of children across the Levant. It opens with the iconic Tiri Tiri Ya Asfoura, arranged in a progressive, experimental style by legendary Baghdad-born Lebanese composer Ihsan Al Munzer, whose signature use of swirling, synth-laden textures gives the cassette its surreal, enchanted tone.
