More Info

This cassette presents a portion of the play Haramieh w Ali Baba (The Thieves and Ali Baba) by the Syrian satirical theater group United Engineers Family, or as it appears here, United Family for Arts, which was founded and led by Aleppo-born director and screenwriter Humam Hout. The group produced many critical and scathing plays about the Arab political reality and life under the Syrian regime, such as The Night Baghdad Fell and The Night Bakri Was Arrested, and was one of the examples of political comedy that the Assad regime allowed as a margin of venting, as many believe.
