More Info

A wholesome shaabi music tape that brings together skilled singer Mohammad Bennishi, with his strong voice of distinctive timbre and high mood in singing, with a rich arrangement led by oud and keyboard supported by a vibrant rhythmic section. The cassette appears to be from the early 1990s, when the keyboard's presence was still shy and restrained. One of the earliest and most significant shaabi artists in the city of Idlib was Mohammad Bennishi, best known for performing various shaabi styles such as attaba, swahili and mawal. Booking Bennishi to sing at weddings became a source of pride for those families who could book him for such events.
