More Info

In this live recording from the 1990s, we listen to Aleppo singer Faisal Al Ahmad alternating between singing and recitation, in a traditional format with acoustic arrangements led by the nay and oud. The cassette shows Faisal Al Ahmad's wide range, who excels in slow mawals and attabas here just as much as he excels in dabke and fast dance songs in other tapes in our archive. Faisal Al Ahmad began singing in the late 1990s, and was accustomed to writing and composing his own songs. He released several full-length albums and demonstrated an ability to perform Aleppine mawwals with a strong and skilled voice, though he spent most of his career performing folk songs and dabke at cafeterias and private parties. He remains present in Aleppo's music scene today, where he runs a concert booking agency.
