More Info

Contrary to her usual performance of light dance songs, we listen to Hala Ghannam here in the slow attaba format, sharing the stage with her Idlib counterpart Muhammad Banshi in slow, melodious dialogues. One of the earliest and most significant shaabi artists in the city of Idlib was Mohammed Banshi, best known for performing various shaabi styles such as attaba, swahili and mawal. Hiring Al Banshi to sing at weddings became a source of pride for those families who could book him for such events. Hala Ghannam hails from the Syrian coastal region. The internet preserves several of her performances, most of which are attaba dialogues with other singers, especially Faisal Al Ahmad and Mohammad Bennshi.
