More Info
A sublime tape of mawal by Iraqi singer Ali Habib, distinguished by rich acoustic arrangement and rough recording quality that blends with Ali's voice to create what seems like an artificial hoarseness that adds to his masterful singing, which flows smoothly between the high and low registers. In the 1990s, Habib Ali released the song Hatha, Ya Hob (This is, Oh Love), penned by famous Iraqi composer Ali Saber. It rapidly became a hit, remembered by the nineties generation in Iraq and neighboring countries, particularly in the Euphrates region of eastern Syria, which borders Iraq and shares very similar dialects and musical heritage. Habib Ali's career is still active today, living between Baghdad and the UAE, where he performs new works at live concerts to his fans in the Gulf.
