More Info
On this album, the Gomidas band is joined by singer Garo. The album is split into two parts: Side A contains songs with lyrics by Yussef Wahba and music by the band, while Side B features traditional folk songs with their original lyrics and melodies. However, when listening to the tape, it's difficult to distinguish between the traditional and original songs, as they're all presented with contemporary arrangements fitting for a progressive 80s band, combining traditional oriental instruments with a melodic, acid-toned synth that sounds like it's straight out of a sci-fi film. Gomidas Band was formed in Aleppo by a group of Syrian Armenian artists in the early 1980s. With a rich legacy of studio-recorded albums and live performances, Gomidas have gained popularity inside and outside Syria, and are still active today.
