How widespread were compilation tapes during the golden age of cassettes? We find an answer here, as we encounter a compilation tape made up of three compilation tapes, like Russian nesting dolls. Side A is a compilation of Gulf and Egyptian songs performed by singer Hussam Jamal, while Side B consists of two compilation tapes - one by Mazen Baghdady and another by Muhsen Al Sha'iry. Here we can observe how Arab music quickly transitioned after the golden age of tarab from songs needing entire tapes dedicated to a single piece, to tapes containing about thirty songs each, revealing the overwhelming rise of short, light, fast songs filling the void left by tarab mawal.
