More Info

Deir Ez Zor singer Nidal Maddad specialized in the musical traditions of Syria’s Jazeera region, particularly the Euphrates basin styles like choubi. His 1990s album Lomi remains one of his most widely circulated releases online. It features choubi and shaabi tracks distinguished by unusually rich arrangements for the time, and by Nidal’s monotonal singing style, which acts as a steady anchor, seemingly indifferent to the surging energy of the keyboards.
