More Info

In this tape, Elias Karam plays on the extended boundaries between Syrian shaabi, traditional, and pop music, borrowing inspirations from all three worlds and pouring them into a smooth and musically ambitious template. The tape includes some of his most famous songs, like Ya Walif Al Zen which gives the tape its name. Born in 1960 in Hassake, Elias Karam learned to play the oud from an early age, then began singing and composing. According to some sources, he composed all his own songs, often collaborating with folk poet Issam Junaid, and also composed songs for Syrian and Lebanese singers like Assala Nasri and Wael Kfoury. Elias Karam excels at singing in both Arabic and Syriac, and has many songs in both languages. He has performed his music in concerts across the Arab world and in Europe and America. It is said that he has been living in the United States since the beginning of the conflict in Syria.
