More Info

This compilation tape includes various recordings of Hourani jawfiya. While sharing the same epic poetic structure across all recordings, each jawfiya in the tape differs from the others in terms of singing style, arrangement, and even recording quality. The Jawfiya song is a main pillar of Hourani music, especially in the governorates of Daraa and Sweida. It originates from an epic poem documenting a battle that took place in the Al Jouf region of Saudi Arabia, which was passed down by Bedouins until it reached the Houran region in Syria, where it transformed into a lyrical poem performed at social occasions and weddings.
