More Info
This lively live tape features iconic Deiri singer Mohammed Othman, distinguished by the strong interaction between the singer and audience in a call-and-response style. Mohammed Othman performs a mawal on each side of the tape, during which he captivates listeners with his energetic singing and distinctively textured voice. Born in Deir Ez Zor in 1944, Mohammed Othman was one of the most prominent singer-composers from the Jazira and Euphrates region. He began his career performing at weddings and national and patriotic celebrations in Deir Ez Zor before his fame spread to the rest of Syria after his appearance on the Alwan (Colors) program on Syrian television. He sang for many Syrian composers, and released dozens of radio and television recordings throughout his career, while also being active in the Artists' Syndicate in Deir Ez Zor. He performed on stages in Aleppo, Damascus, and several Arab cities. He passed away in 2010 and was laid to rest with a large funeral procession in his home city.
