More Info
This tape dates back to the middle of Kurdish singer Bahaa Sheikho's career, which has extended until today for nearly half a century. In this tape, he performs a collection of Sheikhani songs and Kurdish dabke, where his calm, steady voice appears as an anchor for the dynamic arrangement that never stops moving and changing. A native of Qamishli city and brother of the late musician Mohammed Sheikho, Bahaa Sheikho taught himself to play the buzuq at a young age, and began singing at local events since his childhood in 1977. He released his first cassette in 1980 in collaboration with buzuq player Salah Ossi, and has continued since then to release 9 albums which he composed himself with lyrics written by a group of Kurdish poets including Yousef Barazi and the late Farhad Ajmo. Today he lives between Kurdish regions in Syria and Sweden, and is still active in performing at concerts and weddings around the world.
