More Info

A 2009 live recording of Ahmed Al-Koseem performing a wedding for the Al-Rifai family in the village of Oum Walad, east of Daraa province. The compelling sound of the Hourani mejwiz (double-reeded bamboo flute) drives the music front and center here – loud and distinguished compared to its use in Syrian shaabi music from other regions. The sounds of the Houran region in southern Syria are more closely connected to those of north Palestine and Jordan. During parts of the performance, Al-Koseem is accompanied by a choir of men's voices in the communal spirit of folk music from the region.
