More Info
This cassette offers a collection of Attaba songs and dialogues between Fairha Al-Abdullah and singer Shaman Sham. Before Sariya al-Sawas became the first lady of Syrian shaabi music, this throne belonged to another powerful voice: Fairha Al-Abdullah. While Fairha is still present today, she lived through a golden era in the 1990s, when she was abundantly present at weddings, private parties, and nightclubs. She collaborated with a wide spectrum of voices and musicians, and drew the portrait of a Syrian shaabi singer with her intense, dynamic voice adorned with a timbre that brings a sense of melancholy. At the beginning of her career, Fairha carried the classification of 'Al-Hajjiyat' or 'Al-Shikhat,' a title given by the people of Homs to Syrian shaabi singers from their region who faced rejection from their conservative communities. However, Fairha now holds another title she earned through her long career: 'Singer of the Badiya' (Desert).
