More Info

Many listeners make comparisons between Kawthar Mansour and singers such as Fariha Al-Abdullah, or Saria Al-Sawas, whether in terms of popularity, or proficiency of the voice. In fact, these names have a lot in common, in that all of them appeared boldly on the Syrian shaabi scene, preserved some ambiguity about their origin, background, or personal life, and became subsequently entrenched in memory during a specific period in Syria. It was a period when tourism was at its peak in the country, and shaabi nightclubs spread between Homs and Damascus were always open to diverse nationalities. For both local and foreign visitors, these nightclubs and its music constituted a strange world which many still recall today with equal amounts of curiosity and nostalgia.
