More Info

Salah Hliel was one of the most famous wedding singers in Deir Ez Zor during the early 2000s. In addition to the fast-paced folk dabke he would often perform at weddings, he was also known for singing slower, sadder songs, influenced by Iraqi melodies and vocal styles from the period. Hliel and his similar sounding contemporaries in the region exemplify the long-shared musical and cultural heritage between neighbors Iraq and Syria.

As the sound of the host at the beginning of the album tells us, this lively cassette was recorded at the wedding celebration of Mr. Maher Al-Hasani and Miss Manar Darwish.
