More Info
A live recording of singer Wafik Habib - 'The star of the Syrian coast' - as stated on the front cover of this tape, recorded at a wedding in the early 2000s. In addition to performing original and cover songs, side A of this recording includes a slow-tempo Arab dabke set, a staple of coastal Syrian weddings. The cassette begins with Dabke wa dabikeh (Dabke People), which became a staple at Syrian weddings at the turn of the century. This is followed by Khams Sbayah (Five Young Women), famously known among Syrian public transport drivers as Umm Al-Sha'r Al-Kharnubi, which drivers couldn't stop playing for years after its release. The first side of the cassette concludes with another hit, Hajar, before Wafik Habib moves on to traditional songs on the second side.
