More Info

We don't have much in the way of documentation about the life of Abu Abdo al-Atramani (the singer of Ghouta). He hailed from Ain Tarma in eastern Ghouta in the Damascus countryside, and died of natural causes at the end of the 1980s. His audio repertoire remains the only witness to a long career in which he was the most popular and renown performer in the region. Today, many residents of the area still remember attending weddings in their childhood in which Abu Abdo al-Atramani performed songs from the heritage of the city of Damascus in his distinct rural accent.
