More Info

Houda Al-Basri is one of the many Iraqi singers who arrived in Syria following the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 and continued to sing and perform there. She is also among the most patriotic and nostalgic about her mother country. Even when performing at a wedding or a private occasion, she integrates politics into the context of her performance, often mentioning the name of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, or sending greetings to the resistance movements in the region.

In this recording, Houda Al-Basri performs a wedding ceremony in the nothearstern Syrian city of Hassake. She opens with almost 20 minutes of mawal before segueing into iraqi choubi songs.
