Al Farra worked as a teacher in Homs for 17 years before devoting himself entirely to his literary and poetic work. He became widely known for his poem Hamda, which became a symbol of his career. His other notable works include The Story of Hamda, The Land is Ours, Hadith Al-Heil, Every Night (in colloquial Arabic), and The Stranger and Men of God (in classical Arabic). He died at his home in Damascus at the age of 66.
