More Info

A collection of popular songs and monologues by Syrian artist Salama Al-Aghawani. The art of political and social monologue has flourished in Syria since the early 1930s, thanks to the popular Damascene poet and folk-artist Salama Al-Aghwani (1909-1982). He composed and sang all his own works, and quickly managed to influence the masses, who eagerly memorized and cherished everything he wrote. This is likely attributed to the way he was able to express the people’s emotions, feelings and hostilities toward the French colonialists in Syria.
