More Info
In this cassette of Assyrian music, we listen to an arrangement that deserves pause and analysis, combining inspirations from Western 90s rock and pop, featuring hot electric guitar solos, while also being influenced by Jaziran music in all its branches and its string and rhythmic instruments, ultimately presenting us with a cross-cultural journey that is as smooth and harmonious as it is enjoyable. Amanowel Skandar was born in 1962 in Tel Sakra village located on the banks of the Khabour River, from which this cassette derives its name. He moved to Hassake city in his youth, and at age fifteen began playing guitar with Al Ittihad band of the Syriac Catholic Church in Hassake before becoming the band's singer. He released his first album in 1985, and later released about 12 albums, performing them in hundreds of concerts in Syria, Lebanon, Australia, Germany, Greece, and Russia. Social media sources reported his death in 2020.
