More Info

This cassette, recorded live at a celebration in the 1990s, showcases the commanding voice of legendary Hourani singer Faraj Keddah. A vibrant gem from its time in the Houran region of southern Syria, it features pulsating electric and acoustic rhythms that form the foundation for the resonant sound of the mejwiz—a traditional double-reed woodwind instrument crafted from two connected bamboo pipes played using circular breathing techniques and characterized by its droning overtones and buzzing melodies. Throughout the recording, Keddah’s dynamic voice is complemented by samples and electric drums that keeps the party going.
