More Info

This tape is part of a series released in the early 2000s by Sawt El Ghad, a small Suweida-based recording company. The series features prominently in our archive and stands out not only for its range of artists and genres, but also as a vital document of musical heritage from the Houran region in southern Syria. It captures songs that are widely known, memorized, and sung across the Houran, performed in the region’s distinct dialect. This strikingly eclectic compilation ranges from traditional folk arrangements featuring rebaba, drums, and male choirs to heavy regional dirges driven by amplified mejwiz and pulsing electronic percussion, performed by artists Imad Amer, Adham Elawi, Louay Okabani, Mourey Salha, Housam Abo Tafesh, and Fadi Zarouni.
