A mid-century recording of the Egyptian artist, Saleh Abdel Hai, singing "Why, oh Violet?" composed by Al-Sonbaty.

Saleh Abdel-Hay was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1896. He studied singing under Abdo Hambouli, Salama Hegazy and others, before the beginning of the era of Muhammad Abd al-Wahhab, Umm Kulthum and Riyad al-Sunbati, who composed Abdel Hai's most beautiful songs. His career spanned more than fifty years until he passed away in 1962.
