More Info

One of the earliest and most significant shaabi artists in the city of Idlib was Mohamed Al Binshi, best known for performing various shaabi styles such as attaba, swahili and mawal. Hiring Al Binshi to sing at weddings became a source of pride for those families who could book him for such events. On this tape, Al Banshi takes his listeners for an hour long joyride in the mawal genre, a traditional style of sung poetry in which he thrived throughout the 1990s.
