Adeeb Al-Dayekh is one of the legends of the city of Aleppo. He was born in the 1930s and from a young age, memorized traditional Arabic poetry from different historical eras. He began to learn music and chanting at the hands of Alepo’s music masters, and his impressive vocal capabilities were immediately revered. As a result, Al-Dayekh was often invited to perform the Qur’an and religious chants in front of a large audiences on special occasions. Later, Al-Dayekh delved deeper into Sufi poetry, in which he specialized and began singing and becoming globally known for, singing in numerous countries across the world. He passed away in 2001. The songs on this tape include pre-Islamic poems by Qais bin Al-Mulawh, as well as modern ones by Bashara Al-Khoury.
